Oakland County Divorce and Child Custody Disputes

The Best Interest of Your Child(ren) is Our Top Priority

Divorces with minor children have the unfortunate potential to become detrimental to not only the parents, but also to the child or children.  Having competent legal representation by your side to discuss all legal options and helping you decide the best course of action can be the difference between your rights being protected or not.  A very thorough case evaluation is necessary to properly gauge your legal options.  Every case is unique and having a firm by your side who knows Michigan custody laws is crucial.

Knowing Your Options Is Key to Fighting for Your Children

The Oakland County Circuit Court has many options for families in a custody dispute during a divorce.  The Oakland County Friend of the Court has counselors and referees whose job it is to first attempt to facilitate your dispute and suggest possible resolutions to the issue.  If facilitation is unsuccessful, the case will be scheduled for an evidentiary hearing in front of a referee on the issue of custody/parenting time.  This is where witnesses may be called in to present testimony.

If after the evidentiary hearing occurs a party or both parties are not happy with the recommendation, the matter will be set for trial in front of the judge.  The judge’s opinion is final unless it is appealed to the Michigan Court of Appeals.
